Former Baltimore assistant state's attorney says Marilyn Mosby is 'too distracted' to do her job

Roya Hanna, a former assistant state's attorney in Baltimore City who quit her job not long after state's attorney Marilyn Mosby took office, said Mosby is too distracted by her personal life issues - like the federal investigation - to fulfill all of her duties.

“It is a distraction and she cannot effectively manage that office and provide her staff with the skills and tools that they need in order to effectively prosecute crime,” Hanna says.

The recent uptick in crime can partly be attributed to Mosby’s inability to fulfill her duties, according to Hanna, who points out that publicly announcing low-level crimes will not be prosecuted has created an atmosphere of lawlessness.

“Maybe it's a miscommunication on the part of the state's attorney's office or how it gets filtered down on the street level but it's that atmosphere that nothing's going to happen to them that emboldens people to take it one step further,” Hanna said.

“I worked for 12 years at the state's attorney's office, nine of them were handling murders and shootings and I would just sit down and explain to my witnesses the resources that we had and that is not being done and that makes them feel safer,” Hanna said.
