Roya Hanna for Baltimore City State’s Attorney

Sign the Petition

I am running as an independent candidate for State’s Attorney.  I believe that we must get politics out of public safety.  Judges take an oath to be fair and impartial and so they do not affiliate themselves with any political party.  State’s Attorneys take that same oath.  If they are committed to being impartial, they should also not run on a party platform.  The Board of Elections requires that independent candidates get signatures to be on the ballot.

I have more prosecutorial experience than any of the partisan politicians running for this race.  I spent 12 years serving the citizens of Baltimore as an Assistant States Attorney.  For 9 of those years, I tried murders and shootings-- more trials than all of my opponents combined.  I have the distinction of never having lost a murder trial as a prosecutor. Prior to becoming a prosecutor, I trained prosecutors from around the country on how to stop gun violence.

I need your help to get on the ballot and change the criminal justice system in this city.

Below is the petition required by the Board of Elections.  If you could have all the registered voters in your household sign the petition, I would be extremely grateful.  Even if you are considering supporting another candidate in the primary, please fill out the petition in case your candidate does not win and to allow me ballot access.  Any voter, regardless of party can sign. Signing allows me to get on the ballot and may give you another option in the November 8th election.  Please mail it to Friends of Roya Hanna, 217 North Charles St, Baltimore MD 21201 or send us an email and we will come get it.

Crime does not have to be the story of Baltimore. This beautiful city is filled with businesses, artists, social justice advocates, and thousands of people who work every day to make the lives of their neighbors better.  When it comes to public safety, however, our government is failing us. The State’s Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer of the city and is responsible for influencing everything related to public safety. Prior to the current administration, Baltimore never had over 50 murders per 100,000 in population in its entire history. Each and every year the current State’s Attorney has been in charge, we have hit that mark. Baltimore has broken the record of homicides per capita 3 times during her administration. We can and must do a better job of keeping our communities safe so that Baltimore can grow and thrive.

Roya Hanna believes in our community. With over 20 years in criminal justice, she knows that the system can be fair, work for the community, increase our safety, and help revitalize the city. She has a plan to convict violent repeat offenders and will invest in programs to deter future crime. Based on her extensive experience working with youthful offenders, she has a program to prevent our kids from being involved in the criminal world. Her plan will provide substance abuse treatment and address trauma by providing services to those who need it and will hold low-level offenders accountable while reducing mass incarceration.

Join her campaign to help Baltimore become the city of art and innovation, of industry and green spaces, of history and progress that we know that it is destined to be.
